Others Do Not Know
What to Say
Day 178
“We were so deep in our grief that we didn’t know how to ask
for help,” Shelly says of her son’s suicide. “We didn’t know how to communicate
that. There were times I wished someone would have intruded upon our grief and
said, “Do you need someone to talk to? Do you need someone to share with?’”
If you have lost someone to suicide, there are times when
even those closest to you don’t know what to say. They may even pull back. This
isn’t because they don’t love you. It’s because they simply are at a loss for
words and don’t know how to respond. Explain to them or show them that what you
need is a friend.
“[Love] bears all things, believes all things, hopes all
things, endures all things. Love never fails.” (1 Corinthians 13:7, 8 NASB).
Lord, when I don’t
know what to say and my friends don’t know what to say, let us all just rest in
Your love. Teach us to love one another. Amen.
